Of course, searching for the person who invented the sofa is like searching for the person who first managed to light a fire, but there are depictions of people lounging on cushions and sofas from ancient times! (ancient Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, etc., they all had their way of lounging somewhere soft!)

For THOUSANDS OF YEARS, the concept of a sofa and a living room did not exist in every household like now, as it was only the privilege of the rich to have such spaces for lounging, having tea, and relaxing reading! Thanks to the industrial revolution, cheaper fabrics and materials became available, and mass production of sewing machines began!

So gradually we reach the beginning of the 20th century, with sofas becoming available for wide "consumption" and you don't need to have a mansion and own half the country to sit with two friends to have a coffee and watch a rerun of Konstantinos and Eleni after work!

I don't know if you have ever thought about how important the concept of a sofa and a living room is. Although it is the only space in the house that does not serve a *basic* need (you sleep in the bedroom, you eat in the kitchen and dining room, you read my posts in the toilet), even in houses with 20 sqm THERE WILL BE AT LEAST A SMALL SOFA! It is the space for relaxation and socializing!

Even the sofa, which we take for granted, until recently was a luxury for very few people!
