Salt Dough - Easter Edition

Salt Dough - Easter Edition

Salt dough is one of my favorite materials for endless hours of creation with little ones..

Since Easter is approaching, it is a good opportunity to make handmade Easter decorations together, with materials that we all have in our kitchen...

Flour, salt and water...

The ratio is three cups of flour, one cup of fine salt, and one cup of tap water (you may need more water, depending on the dough).

The materials you will need

  • For the dough: Three cups of flour, one cup of fine salt, one cup of tap water

How to make Easter decorations with salt dough

Salt dough is similar to playdough, with the only difference that you can make it with simple materials that you already have in your kitchen.

Imagine the satisfaction your children will feel once you complete your creations...

  • First, in a bowl, mix three cups of flour and one cup of salt, and mix lightly.

  • Then, gradually add one cup of water, constantly stirring with your hand, until it becomes a tight dough.
    • If needed, add a little more water.

    • To make your creations smell nice, add vanilla powder to the dough.

    • Divide the dough into smaller pieces and color them with pastry colors.

    • With a rolling pin, roll out your small pieces of dough into thin sheets and shape them using Easter cookie cutters.

    • Alternatively, if your kids are younger, make small egg shapes with your hands and flatten them.

    • In some creations, make a small hole at the top.

    • Place your shapes on a baking tray and bake in the oven for about half an hour, until the dough hardens and the moisture evaporates.

    • If you didn't color your creations with pastry colors, you can now paint them with tempera paints.

    • Thread Easter ribbons through the shapes with holes and hang them on branches, lights, or in pots.

    • The rest can be placed on a large Easter plate in the center of the table.

Every year I look forward to making Easter decorations with my kids using salt dough...

After all, why not decorate our home for Easter?

Especially with beautiful creations made by our little ones!
