Description

The Greek democracy is approaching its 35th year since the 1974 regime change.
This book examines its paradoxes, such as the absence of a democratic political party in terms of its internal structure and functioning, resulting in the dominance of family ties in the construction of power, which is also one of the main characteristics of feudal society.

The author also focuses on the increasing tendency of members of the clergy to directly interfere in institutional issues (e.g. identities) or even foreign policy issues, in contrast to the substantive and effective separation of church and state achieved in European countries.

The book highlights the gradual fusion of public and private power, as the private sector uses the state as a means of enrichment. A direct consequence of this is the phenomenon of corruption, with "economic scandals" that periodically come to light, with the recent example being that of Siemens. Thus, politics becomes a private affair of the major political dynasties and powerful economic interests behind and around them, which is not a pathological symptom but an organic characteristic of the Greek political system.

All these are features of a medieval feudalism and not of an urban democracy.
"The overthrow of this Greek paradox is the goal for our generation and for those to come," the author states, presenting in the final chapters of the book a series of ideas for institutional reforms that could contribute to the qualitative upgrade of the democratic system.
