Byzantine life in Byzantium and Greek-speaking medieval literary production are the two main topics covered in the content of this book.
The first part presents the family, the residence, life in the countryside and in the city, but also specific issues such as trade, education, philanthropy, monasticism, as well as the relations of the Byzantines with the surrounding peoples.
The second part provides a brief history of Byzantine literature. First, the general principles that characterize the literary production of the period are presented, and then the texts are distinguished into prose and poetic, scholarly and popular, depending on their literary genre (theological treatises, historical works, lives of saints, rhetorical treatises, novels, scientific works) always in their chronological sequence.
