Description

Although sixty whole years have passed since 1956, when "The English Lieutenant" was hosted in Nea Estia, Moravia, one of the most translated Italian writers, continues to attract the interest of the Greek reader. In this book, Christos Poneros unlocks the work of the Italian writer, using the appropriate - according to Moravia - key: Psychoanalysis. Thus, through the issue of the Father, he approaches indifference, boredom, and gender. An approach that, starting from intrafamily and interpersonal relationships, extends to the attraction of the individual by the imaginary-fake but also fascinating political saviors. The reader, through the pages of the book, explores, with the lens of Psychoanalysis, the rich literary work of Moravia, discovering in it some common but at the same time essential aspects of our everyday life, such as the difficulties that accompany the transition of the boy to adolescence, the obsession with sex, bisexuality, erotic jealousy, or even hedonism, as well as explicit and latent love triangles. As Moravia says, aspects that scandalize only those who do not try to reach the essence of things.

Gerassimos Zoras, Professor of Italian Literature, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

"What is a father? [...] How does the enigma of the Father happen and fail for each one? [...] Christos Poneros approaches this question through the work of Alberto Moravia and offers us a knowledge that he acquired after a long journey [...]. His work is permeated with the appropriate rigor of clinical thinking, and his language is as academic as it is clear and, therefore, accessible to a wider audience, beyond specialists [...]. He connects the work of Alberto Moravia with psychoanalytic clinic, without limiting the author or the heroes of his work to clinical cases. On the contrary, he places desire in Moravia's work and raises questions. He reads his work in terms of meaning, structuring it with another field. Christos Poneros, without dogmatism, without wanting to impose his thinking at all costs, but still with a clinical eye, shows us that Moravia's work is read, moves, evokes fear, sorrow, pleasure, but also goes beyond Psychoanalysis".
