[...] Lifschitz refuses to limit himself to the most familiar issues of Marx's aesthetics. His analysis extends from Marx's doctoral dissertation on Epicurus to the discussion of Greek art in the Grundrisse, and from "Capital" to the literary arguments of the Holy Family. "The Philosophy of Art," therefore, is not so much a specialized subunit in Marx's texts as a coherent and original perspective from which one can observe part of the trajectory of his work.
