  • Favorite book... We have it from a very young age as it has hard pages and we are not afraid it will tear. We read it all the time. The only downside is that on some pages the text is written in a dark spot, which makes it a little difficult to read especially before bedtime. Otherwise, it is one of the books that I definitely recommend, you must have and love very very much!!!

Very beautiful fairy tale with understandable images for children. It attracts their interest and on each page it doesn't say many words so they don't get bored. My children want us to read it almost every night.

I bought it when my little one was 2 and 1.5 years old and even now, he still asks me to read it to him. Very short story but concise. I would buy it again without hesitation.

Children's book, hard paper, ideal for little hands. A book with deep meanings, insecurity, fear, selfless and unconditional love of the mother are some of the themes it presents with respect.

Wonderful book. It is worth having in every home. The way it describes a mother's love for her child is very touching.

When I first saw it, it didn't catch my eye much, but it was the first book that my little one watched with interest and asked to read again... 6 months later, she still asks for it. 4 stars only because in some pages it is difficult to read the text, especially if you read it before sleep with low light where it is impossible to read.

The review will be done not by a mother but by a child who remembers his mommy reading him this book. It may be for young children but I remember regularly referring to this book to remind myself of its meaning. Even as a primary school child. Now, as a 20-year-old adult, it is one of the few children's books we kept as it brings back very sweet memories.

I went to a well-known chain of bookstores and saw it. Compared to many other fairy tales that I flipped through there, I have to say that it has mediocre to poor illustrations with a weak storyline, which made me choose something else to buy. However, it ended up in our hands as a gift.
I think the title creates expectations that are not met by the fairy tale, at least for me. It's just average, I do not recommend it, there are much better ones out there... Of course, to each their own

Before we bought it, I hadn't realized how beautifully and deeply it conveys messages. It tries to soothe the insecurities of children, and not only, emphasizing the universal love of the mother (and the father if adapted). It also deals with the loss of a parent and the love that is always present. It is definitely recommended!

Personally, for my child (22 months old), although we sit down to read it because he really likes fairy tales and books in general, the story is very short. It definitely has to do with each child, but I think it is for younger children or children who don't sit for long periods of time for a story. Additionally, the letters are black and the illustrations are in dark colors, so it is extremely difficult to read it with low lighting (we lie down and read a fairy tale before bedtime). As a story, I wouldn't say it particularly excited me, nor my child.

What can one say about this book! It touched me deeply. Simple and tender, with beautiful illustrations, vibrant colors, and clean lines, it gives the child a sense of warmth and security. A hymn to maternal love that does not weigh, does not demand, only gives. Without getting tired, without getting exhausted. I don't think we need to talk to the child about things that are difficult for their age. The analysis is unnecessary, the images and the few words are what evoke beautiful emotions. Just by looking at the pictures, they feel safe and dissolve their fears. In my opinion, ideal for children of all ages!

I bought it because the reviews I heard about the foreign edition were very good. Personally, the story didn't evoke any emotion for me, although I think with this title it should have. The illustration is very good, but the child wasn't thrilled.

Nice book, nice illustrations, the letters are indeed unreadable in some parts but obviously you can still read them, it's worth someone getting it and reading it to their child. However, I believe it deals with too many topics for such a short text and the ages it is aimed at

I bought this book for my daughter 15 years ago. Even today, I remind her that I will love her no matter what, even if she becomes a crocodile, as it says in the book.
The most important thing is to know that there is at least one person in the world who will love you unconditionally, no matter what you do, even if you are very different, even if you change, even if you make mistakes, even if you fail. This feeling cannot be described. My parents told me this when I was little and I never forgot it.
It is the gift I give to every friend who has a baby.

  • It has nice images and the theme is important, that of love, but in some points the letters appear difficult to read if it is going to be read by a small child.

Although many recommend it with enthusiasm, it did not win me over. The dialogues could have been more interesting. Fortunately, we had bought it when my child was 1.5 years old and we played with the voices and illustrations. Now, at 3.5 years old, it is extremely boring.

I bought it based on the reviews. I struggled a lot to make it interesting and get my child to sit down and read it (2 years old). Changes in my voice depending on the animal, extra words, etc.
Clearly, we should talk to children about the possibility of things changing in life and something suddenly happening to their parents and all related matters (of course, not with babies who still don't understand the basics), but within a 10-page book, issues of diversity and acceptance by the parent and orphanhood are addressed, which if we were to discuss them with adults, would take hours.
The intention of the book is good, I must say, but it somehow rubs me the wrong way!

The book comes in two versions, one for younger children with smaller dimensions and slightly different texts. The illustrations are very nice and the child likes them. Personally, I would prefer it to stay true to the essence of "I love you no matter what" without any insinuations about death. However, the insinuation is quite deep in the version for younger children, which you can completely ignore. I needed to read a comment to understand that the extinguished candles represent the child who was left alone and whose parents died. Anyway, I don't intend to interpret such meaning to the child from this book, I will read it to them as a pleasant fairy tale.

Also, a personal subjective comment... another fairy tale where the mom is present and not the dad... the mom feeds and puts to sleep, etc... I would finally like a fairy tale with the presence of both parents...

We got the board book version with sturdy cardboard that is resistant to little hands. In the version we have, there is no direct mention of death (the word is not mentioned at all), and both the text and illustrations keep the child's interest. However, on some pages, the text (black letters) is on a dark background and is very difficult to read, which is quite annoying. It was one of our first books, and we got it because we had heard a lot about it, but I think it is somewhat overrated.

I have an 18-month-old daughter. I do not yet have much experience with children's literature in relation to specific ages. However, we like this book. The little one loves the pictures and constantly discovers new points of interest and says new words. The meanings are many and multidimensional. Yes, death is something too deep for a 2-year-old to understand, but it is part of life. I believe it is important for a child to come into contact with concepts even if they do not yet understand them. Some things will be understood as they grow older and they will have additional references from past memories. This way, difficult concepts will become familiar to them.

Very small text. I don't understand what age it corresponds to as the text is very small and the meanings are "deep" because it talks about death. Personally, I didn't like it at all and I don't want to read words like dead, etc. to a child without any reason. It probably touches mothers more. Not even the main meaning is well structured. Overrated. Highly debated and wasted money.
