What does the waterproof rating on camping tents indicate?

Waterproofing in a tent shows us how much water the outer fabric can repel. It is measured in millimeters (mm) and refers to how many millimeters of a vertical column of water (and therefore pressure) a square centimeter of fabric can withstand without being penetrated by water.     On one side, it has a door. Just by looking at the photo, you would think that it opens on the other half as well. No, it's stitched shut, so someone from the two who will be inside needs to crawl out. It's a pain. (I don't understand the reason, but whatever..)
