Description

The so far "theories of art" invoke a system of knowledge based on the standards of mathematics and logic, but they are not firmly grounded in them. However, precisely this analytical space of epistemology is the most appropriate for any kind of "theory": the theory of art, therefore, is not art itself, but systematically examines art as a structured system of knowledge.
This volume specifically includes strong analytical tools, which, for the first time, are applied in the field of aesthetic philosophy with the aim, not of presenting a complete theory of art, but of highlighting the strict framework within which such a theory should be developed. Dimitris E. Lekkas, a musician and mathematician, considered by many to be the "therapist of the analytical method," does exactly that. Surrounded by authors who approach the issue of structuring (art)technical theories and conceptions in various ways, he shows the way towards such a structural theory of art: in order to detect the theory, functional definitions need to be given and a series of critical questions need to be posed and answered so that the body of the theory has foundations, coherence, consistency, and, as much as possible, completeness.

This book is addressed to students or academics dealing with philosophy in general, aesthetic philosophy and epistemology in particular, as well as to musicians, but also to anyone who is engaged in or loves art and is interested in a more technical approach.
