Description

Véros Germanos and with significant teaching experience (Jena, Munich, Cologne), Max Scheler, apart from his philosophical capacity, also had that of a diplomat (he served in Geneva and The Hague). He accepted the strong influence of Husserl's phenomenology and his entire body of work was a long journey of phenomenological deviations (which must include his adherence to Roman Catholicism). His main philosophical position was developed in his work "Formalism in Ethics", where Kantian ethics is subjected to criticism based on the thought of Pascal. The foundation and hierarchy of values were his obsessive philosophical concern.
The problem of sympathy is an important wing in Scheler's edifice, as it relates to his ethical-metaphysical research. Do we know the other pre-logically, aesthetically, rationally? To what extent does the mutual reflection of mental states indicate sympathy, closeness, or otherness? Without exaggeration, Scheler criticizes almost all theories of intersubjectivity expressed until the first quarter of the 20th century (Kant, Nietzsche, Hegel, Hume, Mill, Schopenhauer, Husserl, Bergson, etc.).
