Description

Because the reader of my work will surely ask several times, how I started this effort, what were my first thoughts, how I realized the need to fulfill my purpose, I feel obliged to make some confessions. The idea began to flutter in my mind very early, in early 1943, when the supervisor of the then empty seat of the history of modern Greece, Professor of Byzantine History Ioannis Vogiatzidis, assigned me as a newly elected assistant to teach, during the academic year 1943-1944, the era of Kapodistrias (January 1828 - September 1831). Because my strong desire was to respond as best as possible to the trust of the supervisor professor, as well as the members of the philosophical school, I immediately - with a sense of high responsibility - started preparing my lessons based on a detailed plan of contents, referring especially to the relevant sources - but also to the textbooks - and seeking the assistance of the so-called auxiliary sciences of history, namely public and political economy, psychology of individuals and masses, sociology, human geography, constitutional law, various theories of history, etc., for the understanding and interpretation of the various problems that I would encounter in the course of my research. With such a broad basis and perspective, as well as according to the principles I formulated above, as well as in the "Introductions" of the volumes of my work, the chapters of my History were written and rewritten for decades, until I reached the end of my purpose, the end of my journey into the past, and now I deliver - after half a century of continuous searching and researching - my completed work to the nation.
