Excellent and affordable educational game for familiarizing the young child with the quantitative value of each number as it is visualized with the corresponding length of each rod, as well as introducing them to the concept of addition. It resembles the Montessori method. With the help of an adult at first, the child learns to sort the longer rods (based on the number engraved on them) and then to choose independently, experimentally and "by eye," which smaller piece of rod fits to complement the larger one, so that together they make the number 10. The adult helps to observe the combinations of numbers that form 10 (which can be written down one by one on a piece of paper), without pressure and with appropriate, facilitative dialogue. The game is suitable for many educational goals, so we do not discard it because the child learned or did not learn something at a specific stage. I believe it can be appropriately used with children over 3-4 years old, as long as they can recognize the numbers, the quantities they represent up to 10, and the order of each within the set of 10.
