The book "Maritime Law" is the combined result of 57 years of teaching Maritime Law in the demanding amphitheaters of the Law School of Athens: 38 years for the late Professor A. Antapas (1970-2008) and 19 years for the author L. Athanasiou. It examines in depth, from a contemporary perspective, the legislative and institutional framework of commercial shipping:

- the general introduction to maritime law
- its historical routes
- its sources and correlation with other areas of public and private law
- the definition of vessel and the analysis of all types of ship mortgages
- ship arrests
- the concept and content of vessel exploitation, including chartering and maritime transportation of goods and passengers
- liability issues arising from pollution.

In the end, a unique chapter is dedicated to EU maritime law. The detailed analysis describes the applicable legislative provisions, contained in Greek or international law conventions, as applied domestically and internationally, as well as their application by courts in all major jurisdictions (United Kingdom, France, USA, EU, among others).
