The life and work of Nikephoros Chrysoberges has already attracted the interest of scholars, but until now no comprehensive study of his life and work has been undertaken. This study aims to fill this gap; to proceed with a systematic investigation of all the issues related to his life, personality, and work, within the intellectual climate of the Byzantine capital in the second half of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century. Information about his life and activities is mainly drawn from his written work. After 1213, his traces in the spiritual world of Byzantium disappear. Chrysoberges' rhetorical work consists of three imperial panegyrics, two patriarchal ones, a eulogy, and his exercises: five myths, two narratives, and two dramas. Only one letter is preserved from his epistolary work. His poetic work is also significant, consisting of twelve valuable epitaphs. In its entirety, Chrysoberges' work is preserved in approximately 83 manuscript pages, which belong to 6 different libraries. Two works remained unpublished until today, the letter and a patriarchal eulogy. These works are published in this study along with the second patriarchal eulogy and the three imperial panegyrics, as they deserved reissue due to certain errors of previous publishers.
