The work of professors St. Pavlos and K. Kosmatou "Sanctions in the new Penal Code" is the first systematic recording and processing of issues related to criminal sanctions, as they were reformed after the enactment of laws 4619/2019 and 4637/2019. All the main penalties and the new frameworks that are formed are presented, while special emphasis is given to the changes that have occurred especially in the framework of the pecuniary penalty, the introduction of the new main penalty of community service, as well as the special criminal laws through transitional provisions. At the same time, all the changes in the field of ancillary penalties (e.g. confiscation, deprivation of positions and offices, etc.), security measures, and the criminal treatment of minors are outlined. Also, in the field of penalty reduction, the new provisions of mitigating circumstances (Article 84 of the Penal Code) are interpreted, as well as the penalty frameworks that are formed when two reasons for reducing the penalty coexist (Article 85 of the Penal Code). In addition to the above, a first approach is made to all the institutions that express flexibility in the imposition of the penalty, including suspension, conversion to community service, home detention, and conditional discharge under the new legislative regime.

The book provides a comparative overview of all the new provisions with the old ones in the light of Article 2 of the Penal Code for the retroactive application of the more lenient law. In all thematic areas, the entirety of the case law of the Supreme Court and the substantive courts is presented, according to the new provisions of the Penal Code, with critical commentary where necessary.

Finally, the book includes a correspondence with tables of the old and new provisions, as well as a detailed alphabetical index and an index by article of the provisions of the Penal Code.
