My friend bought the game. I criticized him for the amount of money he spent on it. The reviews I had read said it was an awesome game but also incredibly difficult to the point of being unplayable and essentially impossible to beat. It's even harder than Bloodborne, which is a game I have both hated and loved like no other. Of course, I ended up platinuming it and considering it possibly the best game on the PS4.
While my friend was playing, he told me what I had read from the reviews, but that despite the difficulty, it's an amazing game and incredibly addictive once you get used to it and learn it. "You'll love it," he told me. And that's exactly what happened! When he finished it himself, he practically forced me to play it.
I started it with a cold heart because I had loved Bloodborne and wanted to give it a chance. From the beginning, the game showed its teeth. The regular soldiers kill you instantly just for fun. The game is incredibly difficult and sometimes unfairly so... I don't know, Bloodborne, which I considered the hardest game along with its DLC, now seems simply normal.
I don't have much skill in games and SEKIRO requires you to have incredible skill or try many, many, many, many, many times. Its gameplay is incredible and it has new mechanisms in combat that make it stand out from other Soulsborne games. It has a very nice story with different endings depending on certain choices you make, and overall it's a well-made game.
While the game as a whole is flawless, its difficulty makes it not a game for everyone. You will hit a "wall" many times in the game. You won't be able to progress due to the difficulty. Also, you can't do farming, strengthen your character, and go back to face a boss again, nor can you summon the help of another player like you can in Bloodborne, for example. You have to acquire skill, learn the moves of each boss, die many times, and eventually find a way to defeat them. You have to level up YOURSELF as a player, as a gamer, and not just the character you're playing as.
Furthermore, you have to play it alone at home because you have to be 110% dedicated to the game and because the frustration it sometimes causes will make you blame anyone who is at home, even your 7-year-old daughter who is just playing in the next room... But of course, when you surpass a boss, the satisfaction and reward I think are unmatched... Personally, I celebrated and shouted like crazy when I defeated certain specific bosses. My hands were trembling and the adrenaline was pumping! It's truly an incredible feeling.
The game reaches another level in ng+. Knowing the game's mechanics, having all the skills and "powers" from the first playthrough, but mainly the experience of what you will face and how, the game becomes pure enjoyment without leaving any room for the slightest mistake!!!!
SEKIRO ended up like Bloodborne for me. It became platinum and one of my favorite games. Its difficulty is unbelievable. It's really, really difficult. However, as a casual gamer, I managed to beat it. So I think anyone can. If you manage to do it and don't give up, then you will have an amazing gaming experience!
I highly recommend it!
