Is it allowed during times of crisis to deviate from the constitutional text for the sake of the public interest? Is the salvation of the country a supra-constitutional principle that prevails over "typical" constitutional legitimacy according to "salus populi suprema lex esto"? Do we perhaps overemphasize the role of foreign powers and the economic dimension in Greek political and constitutional history at the expense of the role of individuals? The author addresses these questions through the analysis of the constitutional events of 1935, from the Venizelist movement on March 1st to the restoration of the monarchy on November 3rd, 1935. The study attempts to highlight unknown events or new dimensions of known events of the period, as well as to integrate the constitutional events of 1935 into the broader climate of the crisis of parliamentarism in the interwar period.
