Description

"Krousmas" is the sixth poetry book by Dimitris Kosmopoulos. It is a unified poem in twenty-four parts, most of which were written from September to the end of November 1989 in Skiathos. The poem was completed in September 2009. Kosmopoulos' relationship with Papadiamantis dates back to his childhood. In his previous poetry books, Papadiamantis is constantly present. In "Krousmas" - a title that refers to Papadiamantis' narratives - Kosmopoulos, using symbols, names, and places from the world of Skiathos, sometimes resorts to the wide-ranging expansion of an internally enriched metrical verse and sometimes to fragments of narratives from his personal adventure and the frustrations of his generation. In an attempt where the personal is nourished by the echoes of the collective and the words are illuminated by the ecclesiastical hymnographic tradition and the resurrectional papadiamantine expression."

[1989, general forecast]

Ice at night and early in the morning and the ash, oh
the ashen memory, damp insulation, worn-out wall.
Storms are coming. But death is not the ash
of the despair of the lost. It is the hissing sound

that drags itself, carving the bowels and bites.
That history is the only starlight.
Bodies shattered on the grindstone of nothing,
but their love does not expire in this gloom.

Master of pain, extend your brave hand
and from your resolute silence, send your bombs of light
because death does not dwell in pain or cold,
but in the desolation, outside the door of everything.
