The project analyzes the process of calculating the legitimate share, with the main steps being the determination of the value that the heir should receive, the coverage of this value with remaining assets or life provisions, and finally, the satisfaction of any missing value ("completion" of the legitimate share). The calculation is examined separately in cases where there are debts in the inheritance (including problematic inheritance debts) and in cases of contribution.

The analysis extends to a wide range of specific issues, in order to specialize and test the solutions. At the level of the overall goal, the possibility of considering the calculation process as a method is explored, with an affirmative conclusion, that is, the internal unity that can characterize the process in terms of the individual steps and issues.
