Two main characteristics of the language teaching setting I find myself in is a heavy focus on explicit grammar teaching and on exam preparation. Most coursebooks are not even coursebooks, they work as 'glorified grammarbooks', i.e., they are based on a grammar syllabus, which is surrounded by texts and pictures. Steering away from this model and inspired by a number of approaches (Lexical, TBL, PBL, CLIL), I have created a holistic framework where Language education starts with experiences, orchestrated by the teacher but 'lived' by the learners. Within this framework, grammar teaching becomes part of communication teaming (I intentionally do not use the word 'Language' but communication). In TGWTG the teacher uses several techniques (Drama in Education, Storytelling, Visualization) to create experiences for the learners. The TGWTG approach is based on the principles of Brain-based learning that are outlined here and that inform us on the optimal learning conditions.
