How important is it in a world that seeks specialization. While everyone rushes to specialize, you develop broad interests and abilities to succeed in any field.
In this landmark book, David Epstein shows us that the way to succeed is to try different fields, gain broad experiences, meander, experiment constantly, indulge in many diverse interests - in other words, to develop breadth of knowledge.
David Epstein studied the most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters, and scientists worldwide. He discovered that in most fields - especially those that are more complex and unpredictable - the people who have the background to excel are the generalists, not the specialists. They are also more creative, more flexible, and capable of making more connections than their more specialized colleagues.
Heretical, analytical, captivating, the book supports an exciting perspective: to be positive about inefficiency. Our failure in a test is the best way to learn. Those who give up often end up doing the profession that fills them the most.
The most influential inventors change fields instead of deepening their knowledge in a single field. While specialists will increasingly focus on their subject and computers will acquire more skills, those who have broad thinking and seek to gain diverse experiences will know success.

I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because the first 70 pages of the book are worth it.
The rest are a constant repetition, tiresome writing/chaotic (or maybe it's the Greek translation's fault). Since I made a huge effort to read it, I also listened to interviews of Mr. Epstein and it is equally chaotic in his oral speech.
Even if you are a fan of the "broad knowledge" theory, do not buy it. Borrow it at best or buy it second hand.
One of the worst books I have ever read. Wasted money and time.
* Bad translation
* Abrupt shifts in stories
* Too many stories without coherence
* Connection of "meanings" with no logical relation to the story being written
* Long and continuous differentiation
* Subjective opinions without research (evidence based)
* Confuses experiences, failures, and specialization
* Encourages changing professional fields without mentioning that failure and very low financial rewards are the norm.
