The new YUKAI series of air conditioners features an ULTRA-FRESH filter ensuring you a clean and healthy indoor atmosphere, 8°C operation, High Power mode, Self-Cleaning function, and an extremely silent outdoor unit, providing comfort for both you and your neighbors.

Ultra-Fresh Filter

Ultra-Fresh Filter for clean, hygienic air, free from dust, odors, and microorganisms up to 85%, creating a pleasant indoor environment.

Silent operation

Extremely quiet operation up to 19dB(A) (Indoor).

Silent CDU #1 & #2. The unique noise reduction function of Toshiba's outdoor unit for the comfort of your neighborhood.

8°C Function

Automatic 8°C heating function, when the space remains unoccupied for a long period of time.

Self-cleaning function

Self-cleaning Function, when the unit is turned off, the cleaning function automatically starts and the louver opens slightly. The unit's internal fan operates continuously.

Energy Efficiency

The air conditioner belongs to energy class A++ for cooling and energy class A+ for heating (average zone). The energy class is measured on a seven-level color scale from A+++ to D, with class A+++ being the most efficient, while class D is the least efficient.

Additionally, there are the SEER and SCOP indicators, which more realistically depict the actual energy efficiency of air conditioners.

  • SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is representative for the entire cooling season. It is defined as the ratio of the annual required cooling to the annual electricity consumption (the annual cooling consumption is based on 350 hours of operation). Indicatively, for an air conditioner of class A and above, the SEER indicator is from 5.10w/w units and above.
  • SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance) is representative for the entire heating season. It is defined as the ratio of the annual required heating to the annual electricity consumption (the annual heating consumption is based on 1400 hours of operation). Indicatively, for an air conditioner of class A and above, the SCOP indicator is from 3.40w/w units and above.

This review is about the cooling power: 18000 BTU

Noise: In quiet mode, we have to look at the lights to understand that it's working because the ice cubes melting in the glass make more noise than the air conditioner. In the medium setting, it is barely audible.
Cooling: It delivers whatever we ask for. It has 5 fan speeds and a special mode to eliminate the sound of the external unit (unnecessary in our case), which is usually not audible.
It is wifi ready, the extra kit costs about 100€.
If you are interested in a functional machine from a reputable air conditioning manufacturer (Toshiba-Carrier) that performs well, with basic functions and no gimmicks like follow me, and is completely silent with a 7-year warranty, go for it. At the same time, find a reliable installation team to install it with proper specifications because it is very important.

I am writing this review mainly because I believe that its current rating (3 stars at the moment I am typing) creates the wrong impression that it is a mediocre product. On the contrary, it may be one of the best solutions if someone is looking for an air conditioner of a reputable brand with good specifications and a reasonable price. Especially in the last year, when everything has become more expensive. Personally, considering the specifications and price, I consider it top-notch along with some models from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries that are out of the picture for me due to their larger indoor unit size and limited wall space. Something that is not mentioned on the official website but is definitely worth noting is that especially in the 24,000 BTU model of Yukai, Toshiba decided to use the double compressor that it uses in its more expensive model series, resulting in similar performance despite the significantly lower price.

Ultimately, this particular product was purchased to be used as the main heating and cooling system in an old house with high ceilings (3.3m) and no insulation so far. The ground floor is 43 square meters, not a single space, with branches, a hallway, and an internal staircase leading to the second floor, causing continuous heat loss. Not the easiest task...

    First Test
The heatwave in July was the first strong test for the machine. Perhaps the worst possible scenario. The external temperature was 43 degrees, the walls were heating up, and the thermometer inside was reaching 34 degrees. I set the desired temperature to 27 degrees and the fan of the unit to automatic mode with the eco function activated.

    Result:
The air conditioner had no difficulty in quickly cooling the majority of the ground floor. Despite the spatial difficulties, within two hours even the difficult adjacent areas had dropped to 28 degrees. All this while the external temperature remained steadily above 40 degrees.
Measuring the power consumption, initially it fluctuated slightly above 800 watts and gradually stabilized at 500-550 watts. Considering the conditions and the space, it performed excellently in cooling. As for heating, I reserve my judgment until it is tested in the coming winter.

In terms of noise, the outdoor unit is surprisingly quiet. While you expect the worst from a 24,000 BTU unit, its behavior is more similar to a 12,000 BTU unit running at idle. Perhaps the double compressor I mentioned earlier played a role here, as well as the fact that the installation was done on the ground.
Internally, the result depends on how you set the unit's fan. From the minimum setting, where the noise is almost imperceptible, to the maximum setting, where it starts to resemble an extractor fan, and of course, all the intermediate levels.

In the month that I have been using it, I have not noticed any significant vibrations or expansions/contractions in its plastic parts that are sometimes encountered in more budget-friendly models.

    One last thing
Pay special attention to the installation process, regardless of the air conditioner you choose. By reading many reviews about various air conditioners during the market research, one can easily see that a part of the problems and complaints is related to poor installations.
Unfortunately, a significant part of the industry is not composed of serious professionals. Especially in recent years, with the free installation packages, the tendency to cut corners has become the norm. Even if you have to raise your voice or dismiss a crew, insist on the specifications being followed, for example. Minimum length of pipes, use a vacuum pump for a reasonable period of time. Also ask for shock absorbers if the installation is done on a wall, even if it costs extra.

The manufacturers are not stupid to ask for specific things and certainly Mr. Babis, the technician, is not smarter and cooler to tell you that you don't need one thing or another, in order to finish quickly and make it to the next appointment. Even if everything seems to be working fine at first glance, you cannot know if the air conditioner is actually functioning properly, nor if there is a risk of more serious damage in the future.

This review is about the cooling power: 18000 BTU

I bought it a month ago with the voucher. It is 18,000 BTU, the Ras model, and it operates in a single space of 45 sqm, by the sea, with double glazing as the only insulation. It replaced a 9,000 BTU Futsitzou from 1989. In terms of construction, it does not have the stability of the old air conditioners that incorporate the new technology. I am very satisfied. With temperatures of 38+ degrees Celsius outside, I set it to 27 degrees Celsius on the medium setting, and in 10 minutes it reaches the desired temperature, and then I switch it to eco mode. I don't even use the HI POWER function. It is quiet inside and outside. I believe that the noise issue that many complain about is a result of poor installation. I don't have an opinion on heating. However, due to the season, many installations were done poorly. Make sure that the length of the pipe connecting the outdoor and indoor units is at least 2 meters. Most technicians install it much shorter in order to save money, and you may hear the refrigerant flowing.
