A concept that runs through the entire range of modern Sciences of the Spirit is the Critique of Ideologies, that is, the identification of those individual and universal conditions that distort the prevalence of Right Reason. The contribution of Psychoanalysis to the description and highlighting of Ideologies is of enormous and permanent importance, because its methodology, based on clinical experience, is distinguished by the complementary interpretation of the unconscious motives that accompany every spiritual or psychic expression.

The volume of Proceedings of the 7th International Psychoanalytic Symposium of Delphi, which took place in 2008 on the subject of Psychoanalysis and Ideologies, includes the presentations and corresponding comments of a number of psychoanalysts and intellectuals from different countries who shaped the exceptionally dense, sensitive and topical dialogue of a unique meeting. The views expressed covered a multitude of aspects of the conference theme and contributed to the promotion of an international reflection, the intensity of which is reflected in the texts of this edition. The volume Psychoanalysis and Ideologies seeks to inform a wider audience about the multiple points of contact between psychoanalytic theory and the self-critically evolving contemporary scientific directions, as well as to expand its own research horizon.
