Description
With the appearance of life on Earth, a Darwinian dialogue began between living beings and the inanimate environment, which constantly interact and change. And when evolution brought about the emergence of human intelligence, a third significant component entered the dialogue. Initially, cultural evolution had a mild impact on earthly matters. Until we reached the period that geologists named the Holocene and archaeologists the Neolithic Revolution, when a strong biological coexistence was established: the adoption of agriculture and animal husbandry by humans. Since then, things began to change rapidly: for the first time in the planet's history, a single species, Homo sapiens, was declared a dominant player.
However, the domestication of animals and plants not only changed how humans secure their food. It deeply affected biology, health, lifestyle, social structures, ideology, cosmological systems, and ultimately, their behavior itself.
This book narrates when, how, and why the Paleolithic man replaced hunting, gathering food from nature, and nomadic life with agriculture, animal husbandry, and settled living. When, how, and why these changes led to the development of technological civilization and the accumulation of wealth and people. At the same time, it led to the decline of the egalitarian, generous, and cooperative Paleolithic ethos, allowing for the gradual emergence of today's competitive societies with evident inequality.
