Description

And what if Greece had also become communist? If, instead of the United States, the Soviet Union dominated our political life? If the Polytechnic uprising in 1973 had been reversed? How would our lives be, better or worse? Or, perhaps, better in some ways and worse in others?
Since 1947, the country has been the "Socialist Republic of Greece," faithfully following the Soviet Union. The ruling Communist Party of Greece, led by comrade Harisiadis, is the only political party, the borders are at Mount Olympus, the Poet has written the new National Anthem, the flag is the Tricolor with the hammer and sickle, squares and streets have changed names, and rebetika music is prohibited.
In November 1973, the Polytechnic uprising breaks out, spreading to many parts of Greece. Laokratia Servidou, a recently released student of Architecture, stops collecting prison songs and leads the uprising, although she does not believe in victory. Sound engineer Vangelis Vanger, a longtime friend of Laokratia, brings the radio transmitter of the occupation to the Polytechnic. Meletis Gerakiotis, a senior member of the Communist Party of Greece, tries to remain neutral and live ignoring reality.
At the same time, the reader follows the harsh fate of a real person, about whom few speak today. It is Kostas Karagiorgis, a doctor, leader of the resistance in Thessaly during the Occupation; a senior member of the Communist Party, director of "Rizospasti" newspaper, and a top journalist who was killed by the Communist Party at the age of 47 as an "enemy of the Party and the movement and a servant of the class enemy."
