While Kingston tests the performance of the chips for a specific system, it also tests the chips for compatibility. As memory speeds become faster, chip compatibility becomes increasingly important and varies from system to system, which is why Kingston tests many different brands of chips in each system it supports and maintains approved vendor lists for its modules.

Additionally, the physical dimensions of the module affect the design compatibility of a module. In many systems, the number of chips makes a module physically installable and electrically compatible. Designing the modules for chip compatibility as well as for the number of chips allows us to guarantee absolute compatibility with the system or category of systems in which the module will be installed.

Kingston's engineering process involves testing each new module design in the system in which it will ultimately be used. The memory is tested on the system's motherboard and with the applications and operating systems most frequently used on the system. This is just one step of the seven-step pre-production testing process. In-system testing allows us to ensure that the memory is compatible with all aspects of the system for which we are designing, including hardware, operating systems, and applications.
