"My ballet is not a mystery," Mr. G. replied. "Its purpose is to present an interesting and beautiful spectacle. Of course, beneath the visible forms, there is a hidden meaning, but I did not intend to demonstrate or emphasize it. Certain dances occupy a central position in this ballet.

Let me explain this briefly. Each planet of this mechanism is represented by a sphere of corresponding size and has been placed at a strictly defined distance from the central sphere representing the sun. You set the mechanism in motion and all the spheres begin to rotate and move in specific ways, reproducing in a lively manner the laws that govern their movements. This mechanism reminds you of your knowledge. Similarly, in the rhythm of certain dances, in strictly defined movements and combinations of dances, certain laws are reminded. Such dances are called sacred."

During my travels in the East, I often saw such dances performed during the performance of sacred rituals in some of the ancient temples. This spectacle is inaccessible and unknown to Europeans. Some of these dances are reproduced in the "Struggle of the Magicians."

I could tell you further that at the base of the "Struggle of the Magicians" there are three thoughts, but since I have no hope that they will be understood by the public, if I present only the ballet on stage, I simply call it a spectacle" (G.I. Gurdjieff).
