Description

The easternmost of the mountains of northern Peloponnese and the second highest, Moria, Ziria is a sweet and fertile place.

Large plateaus and valleys vary the mountainous landscape while two large basins, Feneos and Stymphalia, stretch around the mountain, where the homonymous lake nests.

The new map of the Ascent, on a scale of 1:30,000 and two sides, covers the wider area around the mountain, starting from the sea, Akrata, to Kamari and reaching south to Laouka and Psari. The variety and beauty of the landscapes are unique, because with nature, myth and history coexist.

The journey into myth begins from the depths of the earth, from the cave of Hermes, and the gorge of Foniassa, with its cave-like chasms, and emerges in the beautiful valley of Flampourista, Lake Dassios and Lake Stymphalia. The journey into history passes through the acropolis of Pellini, where the ancient temple was transformed into a Paleochristian church and later into a cemetery. It also passes through the Mycenaean necropolis of Aidonia (necropolis of Homeric Araithyrea), from which the famous jewelry was stolen, which eventually returned as the "Treasure of Aidonia" and is now exhibited in the museum of Nemea. And from Feneos, an ancient city-state of ancient Arcadia (which today administratively belongs to the Corinthia prefecture), one of the largest and most important cities of Arcadia, thanks to its rich plain. One can contemplate the relationship of interdependence between man and nature by visiting the Stymphalia Environmental Museum, one of the museums of PIOP, or even the well-preserved settlements of Trikala and Goura, with their historic buildings and the paved square.

Above all, however, it is an authentic hiking map that suggests nature walks, through 10 interesting marked routes with detailed information on distances and travel times.
