Description

The SM7B from SHURE is a dynamic cardioid microphone with a frequency range of 50 to 20,000 Hz, suitable for radio or television productions, offering protection from electromagnetic field noise.

How it works

The wide frequency response of the SM7B preserves the natural beauty of the sound it captures. With its detailed sound profile, words may travel far, but they always reach their destination with quality and intact clarity.

Why is it good?

The shock isolation of the air suspension and the pop filter eliminate both mechanical noises and breathing. Thus, words pass through and the rest stay out of the mix.

Uniform capture
The classic cardioid pattern is designed to reject off-axis sound. So, you can sing or speak at a comfortable angle and the microphone will capture the sound just as you want it, with minimal coloration.

Shield your sound
The advanced electromagnetic shielding protects against hum caused by computer screens and other studio equipment.

It may be the most overrated microphone ever!

If you want it for podcasting, okay, go for it.... but if you want it for recording vocals, instruments, etc., just forget about it!

With so much money, you can buy amazing condenser microphones that simply outperform the SM7B in terms of performance, clarity, etc.

Even the AKG P120 is far better than this!

The product is very good and you will also see very good reviews wherever you read. However, compared to the condenser microphone I have at half the cost, it has less clarity in voice purity. Of course, anyone who chooses this microphone chooses it because they want to "pull" less noise in environments with inadequate sound insulation or to speak very close without distortions and intense proximity. The build quality is one of the best you can find. I give it 4 stars only because of the cost. I believe it could cost less, even with compromises in build quality.

Edit: After at least 1 year together in a personal recording studio, I have only good things to say. No matter which condenser microphone I worked with, none of them had such a high-quality result in terms of noise reduction. I feel like I love it and wouldn't change it except for the electrovoice re-20, not for the quality but for the last one's ability to adjust the sound intensity with small head rotations. If you don't move much in your chair, then the Shure SM7B is the best you can get for a studio with low or moderate sound insulation and with strong noises in the mouth. It's no coincidence that M. Jackson used it for the legendary album Thriller.

However, you should know that it requires a lot of dB gain. I have connected it to the golden age pre 73 dlx preamp, which has 80dB gain. In order not to work at maximum with resulting noise, I have used the Triton Audio FetHead. Now there is a lot of amplification with a very clean result without needing to stick to the microphone to have sufficient intensity in the DAW and without needing to digitally amplify the signal.
